I am hope that someone can help me out.

Sony are lunching their PS2 hard drive in the US and I would like to know if anyone has any idea if you can use the US hard drive in the UK machines or do you need to have a chipped PS2.

I hope someone can help about this and thank you for your time

I've never heard of regional protection on hard drives, so I am guessing that it would work. But I don't know for sure.

My guess it would work aswell. It would be really stupid to make a HDD that's for every continent different.

I thought as much however the Sony Hard Drive comes with Final fantasy XI already installed on the hard drive as well as a second game that I do not know the name of.

the hard drive comes with FFXI and Tetramaster card game. I haven't played the latter since US beta. As far as your region protection, I am not sure about the UK being any different... I would assume there is a NTSC/PAL difference, but i don't know.

Then it would be really stupid for sony since people can buy maxtors HDD with it no problem. Even if they come from Europe or USA i really don't see the difference.

I got the HD however the software that comes with it will only run on a US PS2 so I am Looking at a disk swap system for the PS2. plus you need the network adapter to poweer the HD.

does any one no of a different way to do this.

You need the network adaptor to run your HD, that's true. And it's also true about the NTSC disks can't be played on a PAL disk unless you have a modchip or a swap magic system like you sugested so there's no way around it.
