nope that doesn't worrk
i tried that and delteing temp internet files and cookies. but it doesn't work
I think what you are talking about is called "Auto Complete"
This is when you type the first letter, and you have already visted sites which begin with that letter, it complets it for you.
Example, if you visit "www.yahoo.com" and start typing "www.ya" it'll fill in the rest of the address for you.
Is this what you are referring to?
If so try:
Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced tab-->"Use inline AutoComplete"-->Uncheck

hmm kind of
but when turning off auto complete doesn't get rid of them just hides it. and it isn;t just webpages it is like if you press "w" it will bring up your favorites starting with w
?

Once AutoComplete is turned off, clear your history/temp and try again.
Try this out too..I just downloaded it, so it has not been tested but give it a shot (attached)

Since the first one is the only one that makes sense in your case ("Typed URLs") you might want to give that a shot ;)
From the name it sounds like it simply does the same as manually clearing the history yourself, but if you clear it, and autocomplete is off, it should stay that way from this point on. (that way meaning autocomplete will be off until you turn it back on)

where are favorites stored not the shortcuts?
where are favorites stored not the shortcuts?
Right click on your taskbar-->Properties-->Start Menu tab-->Customize-->Display Favorites-->(Check it)
Then, Start-->Favorites (right click and select open if you want to browse, edit & delete anything from here)
Another way to modify/add/delete items from the favorites is to open IE, click the "Favorites" option up top-->Organize Favorites.

Yep what Vile said about Autocomplete is the solution, I just tried and tick off "web adresses" and it won't search for anything at all ;)
If you want to clear the search then just press the Clear button.
Favorites folder are stored in the Windows folder.

so ur telling me that u have cleared the history (set it to 0 days) turned off auto complete, cleared all the auto complete (forms + passwords) deleted all your temp internet files, deleted ur cookies, unticked in-line auto complete, ticked emtpy temp internet files when explorer is closed. and you still have this problem!!!
What version of IE do you have? I'm not sure if that would really matter or not, but it may be a good idea to do a Windows Update anyways.

1) Close all IE windows.
2) Right click IE icon on desktop -> properties.
3) Clear history, set to 0.
4) Go to autocomplete and tick off "web adresses" and press clear button.
This should work, as said I tried it on IE6 and worked great. I tested to type in a letter in the adress bar and nothing was shown.
