Nah, this isn't true, assuming the person who made the intro, knows what they are doing. (cough EG, cough)

If you ask me, flash intro's are only neccessary when the whole site is made from flash. ala http://www.vectorlounge.com . and it has to blend in with the rest of the site, not just some tacked on thing to make it look spiffy. ppl who put flash intro's on boring html pages annoy me :D

Completely disagree. Obviously flash intros are good for complete flash pages, but there is nothing wrong with static sites having them. In case you didnt notice, more and more site are:)

exactly my point.

too many ordinary websites have flashy intro's. how many times have you seen a flashy intro and think...ooh this is professional looking...then get to the site and find it less interesting that watching a painting of grass growing....drying...:bhead:

i guess maybe i'm just jaded, i've seen so many flash websites now things have to be pretty special to interest me :( but there is still a lot of interesting work being done with flash and shockwave....but i say leave it up to the pro's

Well, because you like disrespecting peoples work does not make the actual technology bad. not everyone is a "professional" at making web pages, or whatever. No offense, but have a look at your web page; it isn't all that...savvy/interesting.

If shockwave/flash was meant for only the pros then, it would not have been released to the public. In that case, the same could be said about anything. lets leave Adobe Premiere and Photoshop to the pro's since some people are horrible with graphics and video.

Not a very good argument on your part:)

i'm not pretending that my site is anything special. I designed it to be simple and to the point. I didn't put a flashy intro up to try and make it more interesting. i could make a website entirely outta flash if i wanted, i chose not to because my site is (supposed to be) about the content (what little i have up atm :( ) rather than the design.

i'm not speaking out against the technology. I love flash, and shockwave etc. its just that its nothing special anymore. it takes a lot to impress me.

http://www.marcnail.com/startsite.htm <=== This site impressed me....it suits the purpose for which it was designed, a gallery for game artwork. If you were going to make a webpage with lots of information, a design like this would be cumbersome.

websites have started to display flash ads with sounds. this is very irritating, especially if its 2.30 am and you have your speakers cranked cos you were watching divx's earlier. having pacman sounds blaring outta ur speakers when you least expect it is not good

You are right, many people use flash ads, but then again.....Besides paying for the ISP, most things on the net are free, this site is free, along with millions of others. (unless its one specific to membership obviously) so people DO need to make their money somehow. I dont get it when people complain about adversting, its all pretty simple. People need money to pay for a host, and to keep the site up, etc...

again u miss my point :)

i wasn't complaining about ads, i know they are essential for continuation of free services etc. I was whinging about flash adverts which use sound in inappropriate ways. same with web-pages which contains midi's, it just distracts you and makes (me at least) want to move on quicker.

No, I didnt miss the point actually :)
yeah, those midis on pages do get annoying, but most have an option to turn them off.

khendar

there should be an option to turn them on....it would get used less i dare say
