View Full Version : Finally a working FF7 XP crack...
Dreakon
03-16-2004, 06:24 PM
I was fiddling around with some features with other cracks and I finally got something to work. I had to add someone elses crack into here because it's vital to getting it to work, but don't worry he recieves full credit for his contribution. I know this worked for me and I checked all the things the XP patch fixed (chocobo races) and they still seemed fixed. Please try it and tell me your results. I know it worked for me, but thats the only test it has had so far.
This consists of the crack originally made by Raphael Jones (can be found on megagames) and a guide to what else needs to be done to get it to work.
Please don't be mad at me if it doesnt work, I just know that it worked for me and I thought I would share it.
P.S: I am not reliable for any damage you do to your computer. Just thought I would say that for those who decide to be daring when going into Regedit...

Well, the game boots up and i come to the menu and i choose "New Game".. Then the game crashes. Is there a way to see/log the reason of the crash?

Not that I know of. Have you tried playing the game without the crack? If not then try it and see if it still crashes. If you have and it only started after you applied the crack and followed the instructions in the guide, I don't know how to help you.
No errors come up or anything?
bullhead
03-29-2004, 08:33 AM
Nope, no error messages at all just a unexplainable crash.. I would be gratefull to know if someone else have experience in this kind of problem.

That's odd, have you tried it without the crack?

This probably isnt the right place to talk about this. Try posting your problems here:

Make a nice detailed post about the problem and your PC specs and I will try and I will help you as good as I can...

It's in the guide included in the zip file. Number 1 or 2 I believe, just be sure to read it thoroughly.

Hmm no idea m8 im not far from the start i think, im at aeris's house i saved after i got the story that her spefmother told how she lost her true mother.
But so far it played all the movies and the sound is correct
My system specs are:

Utterly off the topic, I've heard that Aeris can be brought back to life in the PC version. Is this the case, and if so how does one go about it?
Dreakon
05-24-2004, 02:02 PM
No, there is no official way to bring Aeris back to life. Of course you can always use a save game editor and put Aeris back in, but that's just silly.

my question is, and i beg here, could anybody please be kind enough to send me these or some files through msn/email? i would appreiciate it soooooo much.

First, why don't you have the CD's to get the movie files off of? That's exactly why the game does that.
Second, I doubt anyone would send you the files you need, with all the movies it'd be easily over 700 MB.

Dreakon:
Yesterday I managed to crack ff8 with a nocd crack. As this is a multiple CD game like ff7 I needed to swap files around (CD identity files, i.e. DISK1) so the game knows which CD it should be playing. Is there a method like this needed when you crack ff7 or will the game automatically detect which CD you want to play and run the specific files for it? Thanks.
Does someone know where i can order FF7 for PC ?
I played it on the PSX (great Game !).

Again thanks!

screen goes black and quits when i click the ff7.exe
I have the same problem and I have the movie files installed in the data folder, which I will share by the way if anyone needs them. When I try to start the game the screen blacks out, and then goes back to the desktop. There is a program with the FF7 icon called DEFAULT in the taskbar, but if I click it the screen blacks out and then kicks back to the desktop again. Any help?

If it stayed black and went to the menu I would be a bit more helpful but since that isnt the case I may not be able to help much.
1. The movies are in a folder called "movies" in the Data folder, right? Assuming you have the path made for the movies folder in the registry.
2. Be sure you have any patches for FFVII you need. Did you get the 1.02 patch from Eidos before installing the Chocobo patch (assuming you did install the Windows XP Chocobo patch)?
Thats all I can think of. If these don't work post back with your PC specs.

What menu? the game menu? It doesn't even get that far.

Yes, they are.

I'm not sure about this. I only have one patch that was called the XP 1.4 patch. I thought that's what this crack was supposed to be for, no?
Thats all I can think of. If these don't work post back with your PC specs.

Here:
http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/CustomerSupport/patches/PC/final_fantasy7/Riva_128_ZX.exe
It's the 1.02 Riva Patch. I recommend you get rid of the 1.4 XP patch and reinstall the game and NOT the 1.4 patch, but rather use the 1.02 (Riva 128/ZX) patch I posted. After reinstalling the game and the 1.02 patch (not the 1.4 patch) download and install this patch:
http://www.qhimm.com/ff7_chocobo_patch.zip
Its a cleaner version of that 1.4 patch you have. Remember to use the 1.02 patch then this one for best results. After that apply the crack I included in the beginning of this thread and follow all of the directions perfectly. After everything is successful, go into the FF7 Configuration Tool and uncheck Riva (under the Display tab). Since you have a Geforce card everything should pass and you should be able to play.
After all this is done it should work. Please post back with your results.
P.S: You should get the latest drivers for your video card here:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
They should help at least a little.

I tried the two patches you linked to, but then the crack wouldn't work. I've also discovered that not only is the game not working, but it's also somehow corrupting my nVidia drivers so other games won't work either until I reinstall them.
Dreakon
06-05-2004, 05:37 PM
Doubt the game would corrupt any video card drivers you may have. Are you sure you did all these things (in order starting with 1) on a fresh installation of FF7:
1. Patch the game with the 1.02 Riva patch I linked to above.
2. Patch the game with the chocobo patch I also linked to above.
3. Copy all files (the CD's should have a movie folder in them along with a few other folders, so copy them all) from all the CDs to the data folder.
4. Go into the FF7 configuration tool and uncheck Riva to make everything Pass.
5. Make any other nescessary changes in the Configuration Tool.
6. Use the crack included in the .zip file I included in the first post of the thread.
7. Make all the changes mentioned in the readme file in the same .zip file with the crack.
8. Attempt to play the game.
This should work if you do everything right. Please post back with the results. Be sure when reinstalling the game that you are installing a fresh copy. This means that you uninstall what you have now, delete the games folder then install the game again.
P.S: Be sure to update your video card drivers if you havent yet.

I believe it installs with the original FF7 discs, if you don't have them (for whatever reason...) there isnt much we can do unless you can download them somewhere.

Yeah the directshow software is installed from the ff7 installation disk.
Dreakon: Your guide worked fine, everything seems to be in working order. However the FF7 XP v1.4 patch doesnt seem to help with the graphice, the graphics still suck. Any ideas why this is? Im using a nVidia graphics card and thought that this might be the problem as it was a problem with the graphics on ff8 and i needed to install a patch. Anyway thanks for the guide mate.
A note to others:
Dreakons guide worked for me and others so if you do as the guide states then there shouldnt be any problems for anyone else. There are 2 places where i think you can go wrong with the installation which wasnt mentioned in Dreakons guide.
1. You must install DirectShow otherwise the movie files WILL NOT play.
2. The final fantasy 7 game you have must be either the original version or the platinum version, otherwise the ff7 XP v1.4 patch wont work properly. It will say that it has been installed succesffuly but you wont be able to view any of the movies. I bought the Asian ff7 game off of ebay and the patch didnt work so i had to spend another £20 for the original version :(
Oh and one more thing. If your using a laptop then the controls on final fantasy vii wont work as they require the numpad which laptops dont have. You can get a patch from here (ftp://ftp.eidos.co.uk/pub/uk/final_fantasy_7/patches/ff7input.exe). Oh and the new controls for use with this patch can be found here (http://www.eidosinteractive.co.uk/support/faqinfo.html?fqid=69&gmid=44)
Hope this helps

However the FF7 XP v1.4 patch doesnt seem to help with the graphice, the graphics still suck. Any ideas why this is?
First, as I said above the XP 1.4 patch may get it to work, but its a dirty way of doing it. You'll find much less problems just using the official 1.02 Riva patch and the Chocobo Patch (in that order) I posted above.
Second, if you are too lazy to bother reinstalling the game (I probably would be ;)), be sure that Riva is unchecked in the Graphics part of the Configuration Tool. That will allow Direct 3D to be used on FFVII rather then software renderer.
Hope this helps, and thanks for all the supportive comments! ;)
P.S: Exactly what Nvidia card do you have?

I have it all working now. All i did was uninstall the AnimeVamp v1.4 patch and install the official eidos v1.02 patch and then crakced that with the raphael Jones v1.02 crack. When i ran ff7config i unchecked nVidia and everything worked fine. I had no need for the riva patches. To get the whole thing working i had to install 5 different patches (about to be 6 when i install your high-res cloud patch ;) )and had to change loads of settings, it was a real pain in the ass. Oh well at least it's working. I just hope I dont have that denomic demon cosmo canyon crash :(
Thanks again mate

I had no need for the riva patches.
Technically, the 1.4 AnimeVamp XP Patch is just a combination of the 1.02 and the chocobo patch ;). You'd think itd be more convenient to mix them to one installation file, but it causes more problems then its worth. If it works then congratz!
Glad to see its working for you ;)

I just Bought FF7 on PC and I just got it. For some reason the game won't run. When I launch the game I get a black screen with no music or anything, it just stays black until I hate the escape key, which then makes the game go to the main menu (New Game or Continue) So when I hit New Game..the screen goes black again..and nothing happens after that. I have Directshow installed directly from the Install Disk.
My specs are:
2.8 Celeron
ATI Radeon 9000 IGP
WinXP Home
256 RAM
Please help me, I'd be very grateful.

Uninstall ACE mega codec (if you are using one) or similar video codecs. Install game with directshow, then apply in the next order: video patch, Riva ZX patch, chocoobo patch.

works fine on Radeo 9600 pro and WinXp.

I can't get this game to play properly for the life of me.
I'm running XP home on a P4 2.6ghz with HT. 512mb of pc3200 memory, nvidia Geforce FX5200 128mb of memory with the newest drivers (downloaded them yesterday).
I have tried the 1.4 patch to no avail. I have tried the eidos patches followed by chocobo to utter failure. I have all of the cd info in FF directory (movies, data etc.). My registry has all the directory settings correct. I still can't get the movies to play. And I have to alt-tab out of the game and back into it to get anything to show up or continue. I did get them to display once, but the intro movie was all distroted (like I was watching a negative version of it). I've checked all the avi's in bsplayer and they are intact. Any ideas on what to do next?

You did use the CRACKFF7 file included in the zip right? You need to place it in the folder with ff7.exe and the ff7 config exe file. Then run it and it should get you past the initial CD check.
Make absolutely positive that the paths are correct. Make sure in the registry you have it going to "FF7 Folder Path/data/movies/" and that all the movies are in there. Make sure that in the registry you have set the data drive to C:/ (or whatever your normal data drive is). Also another important thing I have noticed is make sure you copy ALL the files off the CD into the right places off of every CD. That helps with the crack.
1 more thing, make sure you install the 1.02 patch THEN the chocobo patch THEN the CRACKFF7 file in that order. If you dont then one of them will be overwritten and not work.
If the other posters on this forum have told me anything its that the crack works. It may take a few reinstallations but it should eventually work as long as you follow the instructions perfectly.

Is there something asking for a Movie Path? You will have to direct that one straight to the movie path, not c/programs/ediosinteractive/squaresoft/ff8. For you I guess it would be something like this:
c/programs/ediosinteractive/squaresoft/ff8/data/movies
I dont have FF8 though so I have no idea what the paths actually are and what you can change in the registry. All of this is just guessing.
BTW, data path would go to the data folder (assuming there is one) not just to the ff8 one. And you will need a working no-cd crack if you plan on playing without a CD.

!!SPOILERS FOR FF7!!
I'm at the temple of the Ancients and Aeris just kicked the bucket. I should be fighting Jenova, but the screen skips and then I get an error message. I have the 1.04 installed and the Riva one metioned in this topic as well. Is there anything I'm missing.

Ok
1. Ultima Edition is nothing to do with Eidos or Square. To play it you will need to install latest drivers, codecs and to make sure your settings are correct.
2. Always read the .nfo file with notepad usually it will give instructions.
3. I reckon the chocobo patch is for hardware gfx probs, where the choco races flew at amazing speed, like the race was over in seconds.

Draekon, I followed your steps perfectly 100%, yet it still gives me the "insert cd" message.
This is so god damned frustrating. Is the cracked patch supposed to launch an MS-DOS window quickly, and then make it disappear quickly? Or is it supposed to launch something else.
I have a question about the movie copying though. If you keep overwritting the movie files, from all the different CD's, then at the end of the copying you will only have the movies from disk 3. What I did is copy the actual movie files into the big movie folder in the game data. Everything else I overwrote.

Isn't it weird how a perfectly good thread completely goes to pot, and peeps cannot be bothered to read the rules about swearing and warez.
Thanks to most of you this thread is now closed!!!
