i was just checking out a tutorial on how to make a website and they said that u need an ftp client such as cuteftp , can anyone tell me what is used for ?

With an FTP program you can upload files from hdd to server and you can download files from server to hdd.

So you need the program to upload your html files.

U mean if i sign up for a free domain like geocities then i can use the ftp server to upload my files from my hdd to the geocities server ?

ftp= File Transport Protocol....
as the name say you can transport multiply files with very few clicks....

But i dont think that Geocities give u a FTP addy if i remember right its just a crappy online web builder
