I just wonder why some people get problems and some do not... Like my brother had not a single problem with his 500 mhz since 3 years ago... he runs win98... So you just have to choose the right the right parts when you buy a new computer then?

It doesn't only depends on parts, it can be programs you installed, things you done on the comp.
Lots of different factors.

So it can depend a little...
And one more question:
Is pentium more stable than AMD?
Both are the same stable-ness. It is your motherboard, hard drive, memory, and other parts that declare stability.
Windows crashes on some people and not others because Windows is a binary OS so it's only designed to run on certain hardware and certain software/drivers. Otherwise, the binaries crash and fail, thus getting the BSOD. Linux, on the other hand, compiles completely from source and works with any hardware of any type. Even IF there are no drivers for it :)
