Hello,I have looked everywhere and have not been able to find any information on the matter. As stated in the post topic,I am having an issue with Grand Theft Auto Vice City for the PC. My Operating system is Windows XP. P4 1.5gig system. And surely enough ram. Just a few days ago I could play the game. I had a "GForce 2 Pro" card and it started up and allowed me to play the game successfully. But just two days ago I bought an "ATI Radeon 9600 xt" video card and installed it in place of my Gforce card. Now when I click on my GTA:Vice City shortcut, the screen just flicks slightly, but not enough for one to notice it did if they had not paid attention. And when it does so,the game just does not startup. I have tried going to the main directory and clicking on the .exe that starts the game up. And it still does the same thing. I have tried uninstalling, deleting the rockstar games folder associated with the game, and reinstalling it fully three times. Yet it does not start up. My Radeon drivers are the latest updated catalyst ones. And my version of Vice City is 1.0. And also,I am using Directx 9.0b i believe. Or either way..DX 9.0. What in the heck is going on? Radeon 9600xt cards cannot run Vice city for the pc or something? Someone please help me solve this issue! :(

You could try and use the previous version of your graphic card drivers.

Also have a look @ support here http://www.take2games.com/index.php?p=support

It could be that there is a bug with this card. As NV said, check the online support, and especially search for a patch that will eventually fix this compatibility problem.

You may have tried them but I'll just add them
Make sure the G-Force card Drivers are deleted in Control Panel. Install 4.2 drivers for GTA:VC since you have an ATI Radeon. Install the game in a different folder other than the default or what you have done before.

You can check what version of catalyst drivers you are using by veiwing option in the Display in Control panel. Actually GTA:VC runs fine with 2.2 Catalyst Drivers even. I am wondering if the game is looking for your G-Force card in some way. Also is this the only game with this problem? If you have GTA3 see if this same problem arises.

It is the only other game that is having this problem. I have silent hill 3,prince of persia, etc. and none of them are having this problem. I cannot reformat my HD because I only have one.. so i am in a fix. I do not understand what the problem could be..I have tried everything now. This occurance makes absolutely no darn sense. I'm sure I uninstalled all nvidia drivers. This is really crazy.. There is one thing. Nvidia nview desktop manager is still in my control panel and i do not know how to get it out. I have uninstalled everything with nvidia though, but that icon will not leave...

When you right click on the Desktop and Select Properties and Then Settings - What is the Display that is selected ? Is it your ATI 9600 XT??

Hi,

The ATI Radeon 9600xt can play the game fine when using Windows 98SE (I have a 2.6GHz P4). Make sure that the game is using the right graphics configuration (i.e.:the card is selected) and try to run it in 98 compatibility mode.

i'm not too sure, but i think i've heard of some nvidia utility to clear out all traces of their drivers from your system. you could try deleting the whole vc directory and reinstalling, that way you could force your vc installation to re-convert the textures for optimal use with your 9600

I had a problem with my Nvidia GForce card, i had to download an update for a bug with Win XP, and then the XP drivers for my graphics card. That fixed the problem. Apparently Win XP doesnt like the graphics engine used by GTA. I will try to find out the name of the file i used and post it on here later. If i cant, try do a windows update and get the updates.

hope this helps
