From the official PS2emu site -
"PS2emu can now run the bios (with a few bugs), but still does not currently run commercial games."

Roor, shunt, and Scar_T have decided to show off their latest progress with the first initial alpha release of their PS2 emulator, PS2emu. Keep in mind this is still in the early stages of development and still a work in progress. Keep in mind this is not for playing commercial games and is only to show everyone the latest progress. DYNAMIC RECOMPILERS are less than 10% complete, but the performance is faster than usual because the implementation of a new recompiling technique developed specifically for this project that will allow us superior performance to a normal dynamic recompiler.
I also wanted to let you guys know you will need bios files (SCPH10000.BIN and ROM1.BIN) for PS2emu to function. Please don't ask us where to get these. Be sure to download the plugins from the download section because there is no plugins included in the release file. Currently sound support is untested, and does not support HOST emulation.

That's really good news actually. It seemed like N64 was far away from being emulated not too long ago and now you can play almost every game, zipped or unzipped.

its not all that easy...
you have to program it to emulate the Ps2 sound, graphics and controller opcodes
obviously..
if every emulated opcode isnt perfect, it will result in crash :)
give it time.. theres a gamecube emulator in progress as well..

Well www.pcsx2.net is in beta test for version 0.8.
As for version 0.7 I get Bios:'Bios\',PCSX2 can't run without that!
Any idea what this means?
If you have a sulution please post it Thanks!

I ain't looked at PS2 emulators for ages but, last time I looked you needed to make a DVD Image of the game you want to play, I find this highly inconvinient and time consuming, so your better off just buying a PS2 and getting it chipped.

OK! im new in this forum (actually i joined once i saw this thread) and im a ps2 junkie... i dont know much about the emulators, but i DO know where to get bios files.(.BIN) you can download them from torrents (theyre slow downloading, but well worth it files) that u can get from websites like www.torrentspy.com , or www.torrentreactor.to . theres are plently of other files (like games, apps, movies, that you can download for free, as long as u use a torrent downloading program (ur best bet would be Azereus or bittornado). if and when u finish downloading a torrent, they should be in .bin and .cue files! so all you would need to do is open up the game (like FFX-my life) and the gmae would work, as long as the emulator plays the game u downloaded. hopefully in the near future, we will have a ps2 emulator, but i just settle for downloading games and burning them/playing on my comp. if u happen to download a torrent and the files all end with .r01, .r02, .r03, etc. etc.... just use winrar to make them into .bin and .cue files. there u go!
P.S. for those of u ppl who have mod chips in ur ps2s , gamecubes, or Xboxs, u can burn them to a cd using nero or sumthing. For people downloading movies, games and music, use a program that turns those .bin and .cue files like Daemon tools or alcohol and "mount" them. it makes a sort of "extra drive" that reads all types of files like that.

its not as easy as it sounds, it was easy for playstation one and n64 cuz theyre not as sophisticated as the ps2 bios, and those took a long time as well. So, ps2 emulator will be coming out much later. probably after ps3 is released because ps2 will just lose fans
