A friend of mine wants to play it, but can't since he has 1.5...

this is the easiest way
grab the small 500k installer
let it convert your 1.5 textures to 1.6

this saves you from the massive 300+ meg download!!
well at least its how i did it.
with decent hardware should be done in a couple minutes!
