help with neverwinter nights

In the first chapter you have to find 4 animals to help cure wailing death. I did Penisula district first. i killed devourer and the for some stupid reason, i left the room. when i came back in I could not retrieve its body part that you need to complete first chapter. Am i screwed or is there some way to get around this. maybe a level cheat or something.
