Ok, I will start from the beginning. I tried to ungrade norton antivirus 2002 to 2004 and all went well. My trial period ran out and I didn't have the money to purchase it right then so I uninstalled it so I could reinstall Norton 2002. NAV 2004 unstalled fine, but I noticed NAV2002 was also on the add/remove program list. I tried to reinstall NAV2002 and kept getting errors. This is were I did something very stupid.
I open RegEdit and search and deleted everything that said "symantec" or "Norton". I restart and everything was fine. I installed NAV2002 and it worked great until I rebooted once more. My system will get to the point where it has the windows logo and the loading bar then reboot, or get all the way to the welcome screen then reboot once I log in to my user, or every 1 out 25 or so tries I can get all the way into windows and everything is fine.
Please HELP!
Thanks!

Doh.

Always make a backup of the registry before modifying it.

If the system restore doesn't work, you could reinstall windows on the same parition (and same directory)
This will replace the existing install, but since you *won't* format, you'll still have your data.

After I tried it.My only other suggestion is to pop in your computer manufacture cd and reboot your computer and get windows back to normal that way. Preinstalled software when you first got your computer. That's the only way I see it. Unless there's another solution?:(

Yeah, probably. Check to see if you can run those programs first. If you can't run them then you need to reinstall the software over again. That all depends on the software.

So will I have to reinstall my programs.

since they are linked to the registry, yes you will have to reinstall them.

You can try and go into safe mode and from there reinstall the programs.

you could try pressing f8 and instead of selecting safe mode try last know good configration. worked for me once or twice. there was a tool on windows 98 that restored an old version of reg but seems to be all in the system restore, and if that goes wrong ur *****.
