Hi guys,
I have a problem with my computer. After being on for about 2 hours it will just sort of switch off. The power light would still be on as normal but the screen goes black. Only way to restart is to switch off the computer and leave it for a while.
I have already formatted, scan disk and disk defrag but it still switches off. Dont think its over heating cos it never did it before just the last month.
any help!!
thanks

Do you have enough power in your PSU to power the computer, can you show me your system spec's so I can make a better assesment :)

I see you're not newbie, but check if it's set to go to standby mode after 2 hours. Sometimes it happens to me that I can't restore it after standby. Then I need to restart it...

Me too! Upgrade it to 2000 or XP... Better to XP if you're into playing games...

doesnt it sound like a graphics card problem, the fact that you have to leave it a while suggest that the graphics card is cooling down. I had a similar problme with my computer-it would turn on sometimes but others it wouldn't get past the memory check. I solved the prob by replacing the graphics card, as it had cracked from over heating!!

this sounds like power save mode (system standby)
go to control panel, then display
screensaver tab, and power button
in here check the settings

I had the same problem. i have an audigy 2 and there was a program in the new drivers that made the computer to power off. The program was for a remote control.

why has nobody even mentioned an overheating problem? If this guy is a newb, how many times do you think he has taken the fan/heatsink out and cleaned it? Clean out the power supply, clean off processor heatsink and fan.
