Hi all,
Spot the newbie yet? :)
I'm looking into purchasing a DVD R drive. A friend of mine recommended the Pioneer 106. But I think it might be a bit more than I need.
My 4 year old son is PS2 mad! However he does have a habit of scratching discs.
Can some body please help and recommend a cheap DVD R? It will 90% used for backing up PS2 games and the odd DVD movie?
Is it just a DVD-R burner I require for my needs?
Also a good source for DVD-R media would be extremely handy.
Many thanks in advance.

Is it more than I need though?
Do I need to buy a dual format one? The games will only be played on my PS2.

You could just get a dvd-r only one for just ps2 ,but you should just buy a dual format one any way ,they are cheap enough and it insures furture compatiblity.

Two formats at the moment +r and -r ,if you just buy a +r or just a -r and then the other one becomes the main standard then you need to get a new burner. If you get one that does +r and -r ,then your good either way.

ya if you want you can go to http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers to find out if your dvd has dvd-/+r capibilities and i know that ps2 can read both -/+ dvd-rs, if i were you i'd buy the one that can do both dvd-/+r burning media.

I have a Sony DVD RW DW-U14A, was £10 more expensive than the pioneer 106 but I have always liked Sony gear. I use Datawrite 4X disks and not had any problems so far, burned 25 disks in 2 days when I got it aswell.
