hey
i was talkin to the owner of a dvd/vcd rental store and he claims that it is possible to play ps2 games backed up on dvd-r on a ps2 without a modchipp. he said as long as it is PAL and ur ps2 is PAL. well ive gotta scph-50002 ps2 and on the box it claims that it can play dvd-/+/R/W so wouldnt this mean that it can play backed up games on dvd? has anyone tried this?

If that were possible I wonder why we need modchips.

That's a flat-out lie...just like the guy above me said, then why do we need a modchip. The PS2 would think the DVD you burned is not offical, therefore it would not run. Hope that helps...

It does play DVD Movie backups, without being chipped, that is what is probably referred to on the box, but it will not play any backed up games without a mod chip ;)

Or you could just get a chip and not have to worry about having to swap anything.
