Please anybody any idea how this has happened, help me!

I own a PS2 standard UK Pal version bought 10 months ago. Today, for the first time in a long while, I played on it. Some games work fine, but on two others the controller just isn't responding. None of the buttons work. The games that do work are: Ratchett and Clank, The Mummy Returns, Sly Raccoon, Crashbandicoot - the wrath of Cortex and Grand Theft Auto Vice City. The two games that don't work are Grand Theft Auto III and Primal The PS2 is completely UNMODIFIED, the disks are scratch free and originals (not copies) and I have tried 3 different controllers with those two games and none of them worked. All the games are on DVD disk except Crash Bandicoot.

Does anybody have any suggestion to sort it out?

While we're on the subject, does anybody know if the PS2 has any firmware updates to ensure smooth running?

my controllers break every other month
the sony dual shock ones
either i tangle them up and the buttons stop working
or continual abuse of people tryin to make me miss free throws in espn nba 2k4
:)
best advice would be not to roll up the cords from your controller!!

They are unofficial unlicenced controllers. I am currently trying to find the only official controller I have, but it is misplaced. I will test with that one soon when I find it and let you guys know. But why would it work fine with 6 games but not at all with 2 others? I tried the 2 games with 2 unofficial PS2 controllers and 1 official PS1 (not analogue) controler.

My official Dual Shock 2 threw a fit towards the end of Kingdom Hearts, seems to work fine otherwise
