Its probably the case world wide but here in australia, unemployed people are being told to "work for the dole" (social security benefit) after being unemployed for something like 12 months.

Whats your views? should the government be able to make those who take its benefits repay society with work?

me personnaly yes to a degree... i feel for those who cant find work legit. but those bludging or slacking off sitting home watching Ricki Lake downin beers on tax payers money.... that aint on!

I tend to agree with you as well. I can see if someone really has a handicap and cannot work. Or, if they are honestly & actively searching for a job. Unfortunately there are many that take advantage. It just burns my biscuits to hear people say they're "disabled" because of being depressed... it's in their head... they can't read (yes, I do know of someone who tried this). I realize there are special cases but if it's that bad, get on some medication & be a worthwhile/productive member of this world!!

when i was unemployed i had a bout of depression... not serious but it was there... there i was, a guy that couldnt find work... one week i had 12 knock backs... how do i remember this, cos the 13th person to return phone me was my current employer. none the less tho this happened a few times in previous weeks to. I think depression is one of the biggest untold barriers in job hunting - to a degree it might be the best thing working for the dole to get over that hurdle - who knows
