Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum 'just signed up',I need some help from the experts!
Here's my setup

IBM thinkpad laptop 2ghz/256mb ram/30gb h.d.
pioneer 4x dual format dvdrw 'connected via usb with a usb 1/2-ide interface'
Ritek or Maxell media

I know my setup is a little unusual, but I had it working great with a 4x NEC drive & burned all sorts of dvd media.but....r.i.p the NEC died on me hence the pioneer drive.
I've burned a dozen or so dvd's with the pioneer drive so far, they all work great in the laptop but none will play in my home dvd player.
I double checked all my software settings & it's all as it should be.
Then i noticed an option in the dvdrw properties 'AUTOMATIC FINALISATION', I've ran out of blanks to try it but have some on the way.
Could this be the answer to my problems, any idea's folks?

What burning software you using? Anyway the disks MUST be finalised to be read by dvd players so next time you burn something try that option I think it'll fix your problems.

Hi Arbagan,

To answer your question, it's easier to say which software I don't have.
I tend to use recordnow max for dvd video, but also have pinnacle, ulead & nero etc.
I've managed to suss this mystery anyway m8, my home player will usualy play any format of dvd I throw at it,and realy isn't fussy what brand of media I use, but for some reason my new pioneer dual format dvdrw writes '+' dvd in a manor that will not play on my home player, yet when I use '-' dvd it works great, the '+' dvd's I've done seem to work in other peoples home players so all's not lost.I'll just stick with '-' media as it's half the price of '+' anyway.
The 'automatic finalisation' hardware setting I mentioned doesn't seem to make any difference, it's my guess that the software over rides that anyway & closes the disc for you.
Thanks for the input all the same.
