Noob on the block,
Question for fellows,
Operating Systems..
Well for a learning proccess I thought going through Windows Ops would be a good idea to familairize myself with stuff, not really sure but whatever I could find that could be done on the OS i guess. Then procced to eliteness and use Linux. So my question is what would be the best linux operating system to use first for a complete beginner. Any thoughts?

well i tried rehat 9. that was alright for me as a noob. i hear the others are a pain. it was kind of easy to install and getting around on it was easy for a lunix.
How many times do I have to say this? No matter what other people say, RedHat and Mandrake are CRAP! Mandrake is overbloated and RedHat is slooowwwww.
If you use a distro such as one of those two you are only making it harder for yourself. Not only will you get terrible performance, but you will also not learn any of the actual operating system. I told a Mandrake user to ls a dirrectory, and he didn't know how. It turned out he never had even used a vterm before
Make it easier for yourselves, people. If you would like to try out Linux, then you will have best time using Slackware. Sure, it's scarey AT FIRST, but Slackware will actually help you LEARN the commands and the operating system. Then, once you learn it, you can go on to bigger and better things like FreeBSD and Gentoo etc..
None of the more advanced distros are a pain - you obviously just don't know how to configure it/install it.
