cracked battlefield wont update

im trying to patch up to the 1.5 from 1.2 and have the right 146 mb patch to go from 1.2 to 1.5 but when i run it it un-packs then gos to the install screen ut then says "battlefild is not installed" then quits the install. will i have to re-install it or is ther another way so i wont lose all my saves+settings?

any ideas on how i could get this to work?
