I'm just comin down to reality, nintendo do not have a strong eough line up to succeed, u muct understand that. beleive it or not but i was once a fanatical nintndo fan, but things that happened on th n64 which made it do badly are happening to nintendo now, and the loss of rare alone will not make them fail, but it will be a very heavy blow, as i think nintendo is still establishing itself.

If there's one reason i'm dissapointed with the GC, is that it has no 5.1/DTS Digital/Optical output for linkup to an Amp. But other than that, it's cool, and I'm looking forward to the future in terms of games... Zelda, Pro Evolution, FF, etc.

However, I do think that they need some more mature games (like RE, GTA, MGS, etc), if they're going to succeed in the long run

No one can say x console is the best/worst until they've all been around for a while. Take PS2, release games were poo, but this has been round the longest, so it should have the best games. Then X-Box came out, again, poo release games (anyone who says Project Gotham is the "best" racing game is an X-Box fanboy), but they're gradually getting better. And now, GC, surprise, surprise, poo release games, but they're getting better as well.

One point to consider, is, however, Microsoft must be worried if they're dropping the European price (again) to £99.99!! Now call me crazy, but that's damn ludicrous. Surely even the mighty M$ cannot afford to have the "best" hardware at the lowest price?!?!

About graphics, itr true that a game is not all about graphics, however, u would be suprised at how much people buy games bcause of the graphics. Zelda would mke more ppl happy and get more sales if it were usin super realistic graphics for certain, people over the age of 10 dont tend to like baby cartoons....

I agree Colt... but, it's getting other ported games, like TimeSplitters 2, and others. I don't really care about GTA 3 and Vice City, because they are fun for a while, but in my opinion, get boring kind of fast. It's just my opinion, and don't get me wrong, they are really good games.

i would like to dissagree with that.

I like PC games, and ONLY PC games... it is a rareity when I get a GOOD console game.. although, EVERY FECKING console is a computer... all have CPUs, Mobos, cd rom drives, graphics cards, RAM, and EVEN HARD DRIVES NOW! These components make up a computer. No more, and no less. Now modify ports on em to make them friendly for console users, add controller ports, and a toned down graphics card that adds easy environment for that crappy TV you have. You get a console. And since a console is just a modifyed PC, that is exactly what it IS!

But I completely agree with you on one point. I think that what Xbox does, which is incorperate PC aspects in a console, was one ballsy and failure move. Consoles are meant to be chaper, have crappier games, worse controlls, worse graphics, and worse sound. The Xbox tries to incorperate a Geforce 3 64mb 3d card, very modified of course, but still a bad idea. And now a digital decoder on xbox? Oh please, dont get me started. Since when did CONSOLE games require digital decoding :rolleyes: - Simply put, Xbox, to my opinion, may be a good look for some PC gamers taht can't get enough of their PC GAMES. My brother bought his, and I TOLD HIM NOT TO. Result? Look at sly cooper its cel shaded and I dont see you guys complaining about it but when zelda goes celshaded its a big deal. I have seen commercials of the game, the real gameplay. well the fact is, that the Gamecube sports the least powerful hardware... pretty dissapointing, but its the reason why gamecube is so cheap. It would NEVER look as good as any PS2 or Xbox game, though you may not see a difference between GC and PS2. Another thing to think about, is that Gamecube is meant to show off all those warm colors, for no particular reason of course. Those Candy Land toddler colors make me want to throw up. Pikmin... OH GOD!!! :eek: - Anywayz, the gamecube was NOT meant to do GOOD LOOKING cell shading, or real time graphics. It is meant to sport the same type of graphics that n64 did... warm colors, round and fat character models, all the things that make nintnedo systems SUCK. no I agree with you... you ARE correct.. although only because the hardware is better doesnt mean it LOOKS BETTER. The design and what the graphics hardware is made for... it all fits in. Ok. The Gamecube has a bit more graphics processing power. So what? If the designers are forced to take advantage of GC's terribly unadvanced GPU, how do the graphics look? The GC's GPU is designed to show warm colors, round models, and the such that make kid games look like kid games. This is why the graphics on Zelda, and the entire game of Zelda, is going to be bad. Cell shading = Pointy objects & Moire. Exact opposite of GC's GPU. Designers are FORCED to take advantage of this GPU (advantage, wait... more like Forced to use that crappy GPU inside GC :rolleyes: ) - and I guess tendo thought that they needed a game that was a bit different.. and now the only game that was going to sell to adults, Zelda, is that different game. Too bad. They probably lost themselves millions of dollars :rolleyes:

Do yourself a favour and do some research on stuff before u go spraffing in here.. the GC is vastly more powerful in every department compared to the ps2 and slightly underpowered compared to the xbox.

Cell-Shading isnt an old technique its quite new infact, look at jet set radio future ... that uses it and its far from rubbish!

I have played beta version of zelda now and its not crap, jerky etc .. it plays like a dream and also the GC pad is way more intuative than any other pad...

ok.. so anywayz... i am completely aware of cell shading and how it is a new addition to the gaming world, although how many games do you SEE with cell shading? Two? Three? I can only think of one game that is atleast OK and has cell shading: JSR & JGR - both of which, are only ok... there has been cell shading on the xbox and it has worked graphics wise and environment/engine wise, but NOT gameplay wise, but this is because Xbox is the most powerful and versatile system when it comes to graphics.

And yes, I am not saying the GC is not powerful, but the GPU of the GC, a Radeon R20 modifyed core (of course :rolleyes: ) is designed to put out kiddish graphics (round character models and warm colors). It is NOT meant to create pointed models, dark colors, and moire lines in games. And BECAUSE the GC cannot create this type of Graphics Processing, the entire game's engine is completely shattered and ruined. Let's just face the facts folks! The cell shading is no more than a mere experiment. People are going to buy it because it is new and original. Other people will probably shun the game (like us people that have grown up a bit since the N64), for the fact that it IS new, a complete failure. Also, as we have mentioned before, the Zelda games should not have been changed AT ALL!!! This will lose all the die hard zelda fans that are really into it. Why would they change the game after 7 years of SUCCESS?! Let's just face the facts folks (again :D ), the GC is not only a complete failure, but tendo has finally lost a customer. Me. A very dissatisfied customer. Tendo is sinking deeper and deeper and lower and lower... their games are starting to suck EVEN MORE and they are NOT keeping up with times. First off, I don't know what that dude is thinking about the xbox/pc thing but, whatever. Consoles have upsides and downsides as well as pc's. Both have successes and failures, but why only look at the XBOX as being a wannabe pc. Halo didn't suck, but I don't think it was revolutionary or anything.
Ok, to my point then. The Gamecube is not a failure due to the nintendo names, such as, Mario, Metroid, Zelda, and Star Fox. The Gamecube has some really good games. The Resident Evil series is one of my alltime fav's and that's why I bought a GC. But I found out that there are other good games too. I personally like Smash Bros. Melee, and Sunshine. Plus they are getting some Final Fantasy games.
My final words are these: The GC is not a failure at all. If any console were to be deemed a failure, it should be XBOX. So much was put into that system, but the games are sub-par (with a few exceptions) and the console itselft, is frikkin' huge man. But the PS2 is still the Ultimate Master in my book and any Playstation(whether it be 1,2,or 50) will always take the gold.

ack mario is a bloody great game, no other format has anything as polished and solid as mario in terms of physics and style.
as for resident evil i think it is really bad. If you read any review for it you only ever hear 2 good points about it.
"it has amazing graphics" and "its really scary" both are true but so is the fact that the controls are awfull and the gameplay is hindered by this severely. I part traded it back for timesplitters 2 which is many times more fun!

OK, I just want to know what the hell is up with everyone saying PS2 is sooo much better than Xbox and it has so many more quality games. The fact is that Xbox and PS2 were released a year seperately from each other. You cannot compare two systems that were released seperatley. Ok.... let's start off with the graphics. Xbox: 733 Processor, PS2: 255 or something like that. Xbox wins, hands down. Now on to the games, considering PS2 had a year head-start: Xbox's launch offered several quality games right from the get-go. Halo(which is about 5X better than any game on PS2 IMO), DAO3, PGR, Oddworld. So Xbox at launch > PS2 at launch. If one really stops and thinks about it PS2 did not really start to put out most of its stellar titles untill about the one year anniversary of its launch. Now, with Xbox's 1-year anniversary approaching it has some pretty damn good titles coming out. Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Unreal Championship, Brute Force, and Panzer Dragoon Orta to name a few. Now, with all these stellar games it is quite possible that Xbox after year 1 could be > PS2 after year 1. I think this is quite possible!


Man the X-box has been out for over a year now, and except for a few games there arn't any that stand out as hits! The PS2 is still out selling X-box and it's been out for what two years now? The X-box just sucks, sure they gave it more stuff to work with, but with games like the Final Fantasy Seriese on on the PS2 you have a haed core group of gamers there that would rather set fire to themselves than buy another system. And the game cube sales figures are nipping at the heals of the x-box. With Metroid Prime, Resident Evil, and other games starting to emerge on the market it wouldn't surprise me a bit to see the game cube slowly over take the x-box in the market. Microsoft bit off more than they could chew on this one. with them acutally losing money everytime they sell and x-box it won't be but a few more years before they will start cutting back or not making x-boxes at all any more.

oh yeah, Halo was the ONLY game at its start that amounted to anything. Oddworld was a dissapointment to many people. The x-box game programers rely to much on graphics and just toss out any plot or story that would make the games good. Where as the PS 2 and GC don't have the graphics power, the deliever very good games with great stories that make you want to come back for more.

Am I the only one that dissagrees on this (apart from my cousin). I don't find the controls bad at all... apart from the characters just turning round and running, they walk backwards. This is the ONLY thing I find wrong with them!!

IMO the controls are crappy.
Everything is totally restricted. You can shoot up, forward or down, bit basic for me, could have been better implemented no? also why does it take so long to turn? Movement could at least have been updated from the original, which might i say was desinged for a digital pad. Now we have analog sticks and simply pressing which way you would like to go would be much nicer, and could have been done.

well what a lil debate we got goin on here, i wanna add my piece. as far as hardware goes, the ps2 is the least powerful, xbox being the most, gc obviously in between. the dreamcast almost touches the ps2 for power, thats sayin something. about cell-shading? only 2 o3 games games use it? there's about 20games comin out next year on the ps2 alone next year that use cell-shading, including metal gear solid 2 substance. pc gaming? ppl pc gaming sucks ass. name me 10 great pc games, i mean truely great. bet u'll have a hard time thinkin of some. i got a hugely powerful pc yet playin games on it is a complete nightmare. y? bcos there's no standard to how games shud be developed. as every pc is different, you encounter problems, maybe the game wont run well, maybe it wont run at all. also they buggy as **** bcos programmers r lazy and just think 'ah balls 2 fixin it now, we got a deadline, we'll release it then stick a 50mb patch on the internet' you ever tried 2 d/l one of those huge patches on a 56k modem? also controlling a pc game is a disgrace cos using a keyboard is so bad, n the pads r hard 2 set up, there aint many good ones, they cost a fortune, i cud go on. as u guessed i hate playin games on my pc (except champ manager and rct2), thats y i own all 3 consoles (4 including dreamcast). they all have their good points and their bad points and good games and bad games. if u dont like a console then dont buy it, but dont sit in a forum takin the piss outta ppl who have done, its personal taste. so lets all enjoy the best time 2 be a gamer, what with great consoles at cheap prices and games reaching a new level in graphical prowess:>

But disagree with you about the controls of PC games. I feel that playing FPSers and Strategy on the keyboard much much better than console controllers. However, I believe that consoles has better games and that's my opinion.

Let me explain that since you are saying this you have NO idea what you are talking about. It is clear that PS2 and Xbox have almost the SAME graphical advantage. Each have advantages in different spots, although. With the core memory speed on the PS2 being higher, and the CPU speed on the Xbox being higher, it is not the harware that counts! If you took the best of both systems, then you would have a great system! And to tell ya the truth, I truly DON'T see a difference in GPU speeds between the two - and gamecube just plain sucks!

And, now to your PC gaming comment. PS2FREAK was totally right. I am VERY pissed off right now. What you are saying is bull!:

Woah, baby - that's a lot of good games for PC! LOL! Think I proved ya wrong now didn't I? - PC Games have the best graphics, sound, capabilities, flexibility, the only system with TRUE and GOOD multiplayer, and not to mention the most accurate controller (the good ol' mouse) - plus we have voice recognition headsets, voice chat, AND keyboard chat! We can support resolutions sometimes close to 20 times higher than what a TV can support, and what's even better is that you can play a game, do a school report, play music, and talk online all at the same time! Tell me a console that can do that! The closest is Xbox, and the only similarities there are the multiplayer and headset AAAHHHAAAHHAA!!! :grin:

about the cube being a falure i think it is going not cos its a bad machine but because of the way nintendo are screwing europe. first we are not getting animal crossing zelad has been delayed and we only getting half the release that the usa are getting! i think it will fail in europe they are make ing the same mistakes they made with the n64 and i was a big nintendo fan since the snes but hy treat us like this nintendo! u have a geat machine but i ve got rid of mine and know 3 others who have because of yyour attidue to europe! they were out saling the xbox before xmas but now xbox are outselling them 2 to 1 and the cube does have better games it just very bad marketing the same thing which killed the n64
