I have just done the most silly thing ever!!!!

I have managed to delete 15Gb from my hard drive by deleting the wrong folder!

Anyone now of a good unerase wizard that would let me recover the lot???

I have tried Norton Unerase Wizard but had no joy! I cant remember the file names for most of it!!!

If anyone can help i would be very greatful! Most of it was my Mrs. and she aint happy! :(

Oh dear, thanks both of you but Ontrack Pro (Gehenna) didn't find them and google wasnt any good either really. Loads of good things there but everything i tried didn't work!

I know you can do it cos i have recovered formatted HD's before but the method i used previously doesnt work with XP!

Thanks again though for your suggestions! :)

Also note that, during this time, you should NOT do any major installs or anything like that. In fact, use your PC as little as possible, otherwise the data will be overwritten, making the recovery process even less likely.

there are many file retrieval programs that can undelete files from hard drive, floppies, zip discs (even after a quick or complete format in some cases) and I believe from flash cards as well.

As for them being 'free', some are I guess but I suspect most won't be.

I recently used EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard 3.0 on a 100mb zip disc and it retrieved everything I ever put on it including copies of copies of copies etc... it got back 1.3 gb of data (saved to the HD) and some with folder structure or original file names but some with no, but I got back what I wanted from the quick formatted disc that I hadn't used for years.

There may be better programs available to be sure.

just a few hours ago i was reformatting my computer because of some problems i had in the past. As i was about to install Windows Xp it asked me which partitions i'd like to install it on or which partitions i would like to delete. I chose to delete the partitions first to make room, when i accidentally deleted my portable hard drives partition that had all my VERY important stuff. So then i immediatley unplugged my portable hard drives usb port from my computer and restarted my computer, leaving the portable hard drive there and not linking it up to anything aagin. is there anyway i can recover these files from my portable hard drive??!?!? thx

I used to do a this kind of things in the DOS Era with the Norton Unerase Wizard Thing recovering 5.25 diskettes. These last years no so often. Last time I did it on an pretty old Pentium 3 were windows xp didn't boot like in 2004 I recovered ssveral pictures, word and excel documents mainly but as was said some didn't restore at all. In this case the files werent deleted but werent accesible for the windows crash but some word files lost it's formatting texts or other things but at least the text still was legible. Some of the pictures weren't rradable either but most worked fine . I imagine maybe because was made thorugh DOS startup maybe that was the problem

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software (http://www.stellarinfo.com) has helped me to undelete my lost files. It helps in recovering the lost data due to hard drive format or data lost due to file/directory deletion, software malfunction or even sabotage.
Demo version of the software can be downloaded from: http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm
Demo helps in determining the software before purchase.
