Which game or game engine would be easiest to start modding for? Which would be most valuable to know? Which languages should I learn? Which programs should I learn? Thanks
modding is the whimp way out. if you want to make games, learn OpenGL and code away :)
For winbloze users, get Visual C++ 6 and the glut extensions and you should be good to go :)
If you have linux, install OpenGL and THEN start coding away :)

lol, as good as of an idea as that is FlyBoy, some people don't wanna dive into the Ocean when they are learning to swim....start with some easy stuff and work your way up

I if i was you (and i was once) i'd start with something alittle easier!!!
Get yourself the Hammer Editor and make some maps for CS. You'll find you have leaks in that till you know what you are doing so don't start tring to code mods yet!!
If you can build a good map and release it into a community then you will get all the help you need! Start simple and work your way up! Not that making maps will prepare you for coding!
Just go to a search engine and look for tutorials (for what ever game is your bag), there all out there in abundance.
