ive been asked (not officially yet... but tentative) to look into the costs and needs of setting up a low grade forum for the greyhound association and GAP program (greyhound adoption program)
can someone give me the ingredients list and approx cost for setting up a forum from scratch probably to accomodate 150 to 200 members maximum for the first year. (lower bandwidth maybe?)
i need to know what type of domain is needed... and cost
"" "" "" "" "" what software is needed?
"" "" "" "" "" setup fee's and anything else needed.
no hurry on this - just dont want to look like a total newb when the official request comes thru.

free...
invisionfree.com
I wouldnt use Invision Free to be honest. It just says "C++P" to me. It makes you look low grade.
Well, $70-100 if you want vB. I reccomend it for sites that are going to have lots of customers/unique tecnical design/huge customisation)
Else use Invision, (not Invision free, but the download).
You'll want webspace, which you can find mixed ranges at www.webhostingtalk.com (http://www.webhostingtalk.com).
If you need any more info as always Zaf, im happy to help
(MSN: piemaster_ck@hotmail.com) or pm me ;)

thanks m8
the organisation may want to go free to see what is up for offer... but by no means if this is to be a permanent forum it will not be thru freebie boards... i'll stress they will need dedicated site/server and forum software/license.
thanks for the opening info Pie :)
As usual I would recommend vB if they want to pay but if it has to be free, then Invision is the best free board available, so go with it. It's fairly easy to setup as well. Just make sure the host supports php & mysql

Yep either use Invision Board or vBulletin.
vB is best IMO.
@Pie
ShareOrDie board uses Invision Board and it's very big.
So it works.
And IB has many hacks too :rangecoo
Yes Andy, but not "INVISIONFREE", thats the service where ur hosted on their site that EVERYONE here has gone off and tried to do.

Ohh you mean that, oh agree :D
I personally think that if you want to go free you should get phpBB2. I used that and it worked out pretty good. Professional looking (but has an ugly little graphic at the top that says "phpBB2"). Hope this helps.
Phpbb & ikonboard are kiddy boards. They lack many many features that Invision & vBulletin have ;)
