Hey guys, this post is about minidumping which appears to be something that Windows does. Minidumping seems to be in a lot of the errors i get as well. Usually with games. So here are my questions.

1. What is Minidumping?

2. What is its function?

3. Can it be disabled? If so how?

4. Is there a risk to disabling or messing with minidump?

5. If minidump is causing errors generally is there a simple way to fix it.

Thanks guys

3. Can it be disabled? If so how?

Yes what I know.
Start -> Control Panel -> System
Some of the tabs in there.

Also more info about minidump here http://watson.microsoft.com/dw/1033/dcp.asp

After a quick search I found this:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/debug/base/minidump_files.asp

Don't know how accurate this info is tho.

This is a problem i have in Generals that has minidumping assocaited with it. I dont know if minidumping is the cause of the error or what?

C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini093003-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4.tmp.dir00\sysd ata.xml

Beats me, my comp just restarts and tells me this upon rebooting. The two things i know for sure is its not a heat related problem or faulty parts. I havent ruled out a virus, but i doubt its a virus of any sort. It only happens in C&C Generals at random intervals.

Just open and view the dmp file as instructed in the MS link above.

It contains info about the errors.
