Hi- Iv got a new HD which im using as slave we my really old HD which is slow-- but i cant get my new HD to install XP on- (Yes iv changed it to master when trying) Im either getting Windows protection error. Or errors from the CD. So i try with a Mates CD and im still getting the same errors.
I heard win 95 or up -- not including XP-has to be installed first to make it work.?

Did you boot with XP CD and formatted the drive ??
Preferably to NTFS format.

well if it is the upgrade u will need to have win98 or winME installed.
that is what i did becuase the install disk was $100 more. so i just installed a friends version of win 98 then upgraded.

Oh right if you have upgrade version you need another OS installed before.
You can't just install it from scratch.
