He said he wanted to make a "backup" of his XP. It's hard to backup an OS w/o the OS CD/image.
Is there a real need for you to fdisk your comp.....Dont want to sound rude or owt of place but the way you put it it sounds to me that you dont really know what fdisc does......After fdiscing your comp and formatting it all your stuff will be lost so dont do it on a whim and make sure all your important files are saved to cd/dvd.....If ya need help in doing the formatting think twice before you do it or you might regret it...Plus make sure you have all your drivers at hand for the printer, sound card etc etc....

U can 'ghost' your PC using Norton/Symantec Ghost, this is called imaging. Ghost allows you to put an image of your PC onto CD's and then you always have a backup you can retrieve if it all goes pear shaped.
Failing this, you can get a copy of a Windows XP Home or Pro (depending which you have installed now) for free, as long as you use the serial number that belongs to your PC. If you never received the CD, the licence number should either be on a sticker on ya PC or on the front of the WIndows XP book.
Where did you get the PC from, as you should have had a disc supplied.

did you get a recovery disk instead?? if you didn't get that then i wouldn't recommend fdisking ur drive for the simple reason that some company pc's use a hidden drive for recovery. i found out the hard way once lol but that is a different story. but if you got a licence num you should be able to borrow someones copy of xp.
