Another way to fix this (and a damned good idea anyway) is to activate Windows' built-in firewall. I'm only sure this exists under XP, but i think it works in other versions.
Note - not really any need if you have ZoneAlarm or BlackICE or w/ever.

Start>Control Panel>Network Connections>(your active internet cxn)>properties>left tab, internet firewall. Check the box. It's primitive and not very configurable (or easy to, anyway), but it blocks the popups, for one thing.

Help! Im getting these damn popups every 30 mins.... ive not installed anything new, ive updated and run both adaware and norton av....

any ideas would be appreciated. cheers

Just turn off Windows Messenger Service Jamez. In Xp go to run, type Services.msc
Find Messenger in the Name column.
Double click it. The Messenger Properties dialog box comes up.
Choose Disable in the Startup type drop down box. MSN Messenger will still work fine without it enabled :)
