A lot of people think ripping DVDs is legal and others think its illegal. What is it then? It depends. To legally rip a DVD, you must own the DVD your ripping, you may only have one ripped version at any time and may not sell or give it away (but you can lend it), only have the real copy or ripped copy active while the other is inactive, and you must delete ripped copies if you give away or sell the original.
Anything else you do involving backup and copying dvds, or any media name you have with the word ROM (Read-only Memory) in it is strictly illegal due to copyright laws.
