i have had half life blue shift for a while and can not get the console mode to work. could someone please give me a dummies guide on how to make it work

Cheat Mode:
Start the game with the "-console" command line parameter. This is done in the properties of the your desktop short cut to the game. Press ~ to bring up the console window, then enter sv_cheats 1 before loading a game or level to enable cheat mode. Enter one of the below codes.
