So what does everyone think about Sammy Sosa and his corked bat? What kind of punishment do you think he should get?

Wtf?? This doesnt even have to do anything with the Yankees. A whole other team and a whole other topic.
Personnaly I think his records should be taken away. Who knows how long he's corked his bats. If you do that then you have to pay the ultimate price. Its just like using steroids. Innocent people are trying to do good without using some kind of enhancer. And others are cheating their way up gettig all beefed up on steroids nad stuff. It just sickens me to see that.

Hey jordanQ I am not a baseball fan but i know what the cork dose, The cork is placed in the top of the bat buy a drill then it is placed in it alowes the batter to hit the ball faster and further, seeming the ball bounce's of it :)

Yes corking the bat means that the batter placed cork into his bat which alows them to hit it farther and it is very illeagal to do that.

thanks for the info Flip ;) Anybody who is caught cheating in a sport should, imo, be banned for a while. It will hit them where it hurts.....their pride and their wallet.

I'm not sure on this one. They checked 70+ of his other bats & found nothing illegal...
I voted for option # 1.

isn't sammy sosa like REALLY famous....i mean didnt he have his own computer game at one time?
Yeah he has his own computer and video game...
but thats asside the point. This man was cheating. Why the HELL would you cork a bat to PRACTICE?!
This man was cheating, he's a cheater, cheaters don't deserve the enjoyment of playing the sport. Imagine. This guy could have been doing this when he was up against McGuire for the home run record! That would have been a shame to see a cheater as the highest amount of homeruns in a season...
This guy deserves to be banned.

Prolly, but he still cheated: and he should be suspended and fined: maybe he should give all hive royalty money to charity, since he cheated to get it in the first place.

Yes, Sosa is obviously a cheater. However, you can say the same thing for Mark. He was obviously using a form of steroid to bulk himself up & get stronger. Was it THAT big a deal? Who knows? All I know is, the old record holder, Roger Maris as far as we know didn't have to use any supplements, natural or not, or illegal substances on his bat to hit a friggin homerun. Hell, back then the ballparks were also larger then they are now. What does THAT tell you? ;)

Fine and suspension...just like the rest...why should he be different?

I voted for fine and suspension.
Sammy Sosa deserves the fine and suspension but to have his records erased is just ridiculous. I mean they tested all his bats (77) and then cut open the bat he used for homerun #498 and found nothing, then they tested the 5 bats that are already in the hall of fame and found nothing. He has broken nearly 80 bats in the past 6 yrs and nothing came flying out of them? Maybe, just maybe he was telling the truth?
People are so quick to assume that every athlete/star are just rich liars who can get out of everything. Well for the most part that is true but everything he said and they way he acted makes me lean towards he is telling the truth. He didnt run on to the field to pick up all the pieces nor did he act any diffrently once he made contact with the ball (rare for him it lately) except for running out a ground ball.

I don;t think that he should have his records banished...they did check all his other bats and they were fine...but nonetheless he must be punished...to take away his records is imo cruel

Me saying this:
isn't sammy sosa like REALLY famous....i mean didnt he have his own computer game at one time?
wasn't another way of sayin "well he had his own computer game, he cant have cheated".....i was simply curious.
This subject has interested more than i am comfortable with, but could someone tell me how he was found out.....I think if i read correctly, his bat actually broke and the cork cam out and he went to pic the pieces up?

I voted for suspension and fine. I don't think all those records should be taken away until something was proven that he had corked his bats in the past. As CL and turbo said, they checked his other bats, and even ones in the Baseball Hall of Fame, and no signs of tampering were there.
I also agree with CL, about Mark McGwire. Steroids are just as bad as corked bats, they both enhance a player's ability, so if Sosa's records are taken away, McGwire's should be too. Older players worked much harder then some players today, they didn't need steroids to hit their HRs. (like Roger Maris, Babe Ruth, etc.)
Edited: @ Jordan, the bat broke, and the pieces were seen flying out I believe. The umpire checked it out, and Sammy Sosa was ejected in the 1st inning of the Chicago Cubs baseball game a few days ago. He admitted that the bat was his, and that he only had one corked bat that he used during batting practice to hit more home runs for the fans watching. It wasn't harmful since it was practice, but he shouldn't even have a corked bat.
Hope that helped you understand a little bit more, and I hope it wasn't too confusing. ;) :p

Thanks Saurgrist. sounds interestin. Baseball must be a really exciting sport when,
1) you know the rules
2) you know the teams and support one of them.
Babe Ruth, I have heard allot about him. he is mentioned in about every film that concerns baseball or includes a reference to the sport.
Again thanks Saurgrist ;)

I think the worst punishment, he has already had.
That is that forever everyone will have doubts about his true ability and his records

I think Sosas records should be voided untill it is proven that he didnt cork his bats from the past.
Even though Mark Mcguire Used steriods there is no rule that says "you cant use steroids" however there is one that says "No Corked Bats."
Untill he can prove himself innocent his records need to be void.

I think Sammy is getting kind of desperate. He still mad cuz Bonds kicked his ass in homeruns! haha he should get fined and suspended!!:flame:

I think a fine & suspension, now the truth is out his reputation is in tatters.
There does seem to me that they have double standards, while its OK, to take drugs (steroids), but not to cork your bat, they may seen to differant cases, but the out come is the same; to hit the ball further.
