I need to know whats the best compression software available around the net because i need some compression for some back up files.

WinRar, WinZip or WinAce. Depends on the type of file you want to compress

i need to compress pics in Jpeg format and vids in mpeg and documents .doc what should i use whats the best??

i like to use winrar only because its free unlike winzip and with winrar, there are more options and such

WinRAR is not freeware..
it is my favourite compression software as well ..btw

You don't have to pay for winrar ,if you don't it just bugs you on start up that its shareware or some crap and you just click ok or cancel then you can carry on using it.

Actually - using winar past its 40 days trial period without paying for it would be illegal..

WinRAR is my favorite one. It opens most kinds of compressed archives like zip, tar, etc
Win Ace is far superior compared to winrar or winzip, has better compression technology and is compatiable with all compression formats.

if u get the programs off magazines like pc power etc it doesnt have the 40 days trial period.

I think winrar is the best, winace is good but gives me some problems with .rar files :(

If any of you guys live in the UK - there is a feature on different compression software in 'Webuser' magazine (99p) if your interested.
