When I run the no cd patched version of gta3 I can either get no sound or play with the cd. This obviously defeats the purpose of having a no cd patch! To use the no cd patch you have to copy all of the files in the audio folder on the cd to the audio folder in the game directory. There are two other files in the game directory "SFX.RAW" and "SFX.SDT". If these two files are left in the audio folder then the game askes for cd 2 after starting up. If the files are removed then the games can't find any audio hardware and consequently has no sound. Is there any way around this catch-22? Any help would be aprieciated.

Also I have discovered that if i play without the cd the game crashes about every five to ten minutes. There is a system beep and the game freezes up, then you can alt-tab to windows and there is an unhandled exception pop up and windows tells you that gta3.exe has generated error and needs to be closed. Has anyone else had this problem?

Oh yeah and I still have no sound, what a great game!

Do you have the latest version of the game? Try download it and re-install the game...(I dont know if this helps)
It gave no problems to me!

To play without cd i think you have to copy the musics from the gta3 cd2 to your hard drive

As far as I know the latest version is 1.1. I have tried no-cd patches for both versions with the same results.

I am not running winxp nor am I having any of the problems that that patch fixes.

And morpher, for god's sake read my posts before you write something that makes you sound ignorant. If you had you would have noticed that I have copied the sudio files to the hard drive but the game still won't play.

That is why I have a problem, I followed all the directions and have gotten nowhere. Anyone with some other suggestions please step up.
