Well you probably unistalled/deleted some of the files for that program manually, so it doesnt have the files it needs to uninstall.

You can either re-install it, then uninstall it again (that will work) or if not you can just remove the program from the add/remove programs list.

oh.

Well, all you have to do is re-install windows then. Just pop the CD in and REINSTALL (not a clean install).

You wont loose any programs, files or settings.

Well when you re-install it this time, start making a regular habit of creating "Restore Points".

Then, when something goes wrong, you can simply 'restore' your computer back to when it was working ok.

On the PC I have at the moment I have never needed to re-install windows.

What are you doing to your computers??! What did you do to them just before you notice this problem?

I'll take a guess & say your using a reg cleaner ???
am I right ?

IMHO XP is really hard to break

I personally dont use restore > ever since it backed up a virus

prefer to use a backup program like DriveImage
which I only ever use when I'm checking out new programs, betas & untested reg tweaking

Are you using a copy of the windows disk? Maybe it's just a bad copy, and that's why windows screws up so often. Anyways, what Jamez said is correct, you need to reinstall windows, and try to make a backup of your HDD (ghosting can be useful)
