Hi im running xp home edition and i have tried to get heaps of games to play on it the most recent being battelfield 1942 and throne of darkness. It lets me install them but when i go to play them they either dont do anything or keep telling me to put the cd in when its already in there. I have updated my graphics drivers but to no avail, my friend tried them on his which is also running xp home and they run fine so i cant figure out why they wont play on mine here is a copy of my diagnostic report.

Looks like you are having problems with your cdrom drive recognizing cd copy protecions.

have you got all of the updates for xp? like Morpher said, sounds like a problem with auto detect in your cdrom, or your cdrom is on its way out unfortunatly

It is probably because of the protection of the games. Many protected games can only be run from certain types of CD-Rom drives if you play them with a copy.
For Example, SafeDisk 2 protected games which have been copied with CloneCD can only be run from a standard CD-Rom drive and not from a CD-Writer if no crack is applied (this is only an example). Have you cracked all the games?

I suggest you get yourself another CD-Rom drive anyway. And ask your comrade what XP updates he has (what version it currently is) and see if your version is the same.

I'de also like to know weather the games are back up copies
If bf1942 requires direct x 8.1
If the file format of your hdd is fat 32 or ntfs
Is your graphics card compatable
All these can create probs so get some answers and reply

Totally agree. Makes us $%#^@**&^%) mad. We have Throne of Darkness and Enclave. Both will not run on XP Home or Pro. Called all the help desk...they said it was seeing the video card as a copy attempt and shutting down. Laptop, A********.

Anyone help out there?

With battlefield they have a new protection which checks what type of CD is in the cdrom drive. So if it is a burnt copy then it will kick in the protection and you wont be able to play, you need to use a Vertual CD Drive. That is how i am doing it.

Try to run the game from the original. If it works from the original, maybe you just made a bad copy.

I didnt have any probs backing up bf 1942 1/1 using clone cd and a lite on
However dijer needs to check if he has xp on fat 32 or ntfs.
Because ntfs will give him all sorts of probs
I have also found that you get all sorts of probs with gaming on xp if you use the xp disk to partition and format.
Now I set up all computers using a 98 boot disk to partition and format .
xp disk just to load the os
havent had a problem since
