I've been told that winrar can skip corrupted files in an archive...
I've got a multi-part avi, but 1 file is bad.. I can't see an option to skip the bad files..
Anyone know how??
Cheers

If the archive is corrupt, it likely won't be able to merge the data into a readable .avi file anyway so you wouldn't be able to view the file. Try to D/L the bad file again.

Cheers.
Got it sorted now anyway.. It was only 1 file out of about 60.
Need to use dos: rar e -kb filename.rar
Was perfectly watchable too..
This is why I like it when archives have .par files :)

Not in this case..
I initially tried deleting the file and used a par to replace it...
The original file was corrupt, so the par which replaced it was also corrupt..

Lol yea, i guess if the original or par files are corrupt, it doesnt help much :D
I was just saying, in general, its always nice when par files are included rather than just the rar files.

yes, pars are a very cool/useful thing..
Not that I want anyone to go into parity maths, but it seems strange how a par file can replicate any other file, but only be used once...after all, the original par file is unaltered after it's used. I never got why it can't be used again...

a par file set is generally created from a rar set...
think of it as a backup set of files.
You have 1 file with the extension .par and others with the extension p01, p02 etc...
The p01, p02 etc are the same size as the rar files they come with.
If you download a rar set but have some incomplete files, then you can use the pars to retrieve them...
1 par file will fix any 1 rar file... So if you have say 30 rar files out of 35, you will need 5 different par files..eg p01 - p05.
As far as I know you only really come across these things when using newsgroups...
Oh, and you also need a par app to do the deed... I used to use smartpar, but now use fs raid.
hope that answers you question....:)

This issue would have been solved 6 years ago when this thread was created, so plz dont revive dead threads which are 6 years old. Thanks.
