Need some tips that I can use so that I dont get disconnected with dial up (I leave the computer for periods of time to download)
Usually I find that If I leave it for 10 minutes or more they disconnect me and this usally corrupts the file even using resume.
tell me what you do which might help to stay on-line without interupts.

You can't keep dial up active it will always disconnect you but normally its after like 2 hours ,you should get a better isp.
yeah get a better isp my dial up stays on for 5 hours

You just need to get a program to ping your ISP.
Try this:

Just set outlook express to check for mail every 5 or 10mins and that will stop you getting kicked every 10 or 20mins for being idle.

Get downloading programs where you add the file in it, and if it disconnects you can resume again, just go to http://www.download.com and write down Godzilla or getright.

i think what the problem here is (and jamez is onto it) is that we all know dial up has knock off times (2, 3, 4, 6 hours etc).... but isp's also have inactive times where if your not pinging (as per jamez) they boot you.
unfortunately i have dial up and use the AC Plug as suggested - and stay on for my alotted 6 hours evan pass the 20 min inactive times

try and find a program called GoZilla, its is a program that will make it so you can continue downloading from when you left off, and if you get disconected then it will automaticly dial again
And i think that dial up is only for surfing the web, trying to do anything els is just crazy

Hey Gee Gee I was on a free ISP, but changed to a pay one, I still get booted alot, which sucks because even with resumed downloads about half the time there corrupt.
Just wondering how long it would take to download 100mb on broadband?
